Baptism
Are you wanting to have your child baptized? Congratulations! St Anthony is here to accompany you in your sacred duty of raising your children in the Catholic faith.
Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the church and made sharers in her mission:
“Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.”
(Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1213)
Here are the next steps:
- Set up an appointment to meet with the pastor. He is interested in getting to know you and your family better. He will discuss the required formation materials available for you to learn more.
- Prayerfully choose godparents. These should be practicing Catholics who will make good spiritual mentors and prayerful allies to you and your child.
- Fill out an intake form so we have the information we need for a certificate and for our records.
- Agree on a date and time with the pastor. Baptisms are typically celebrated after one of the weekend masses, or even within a weekend mass if so desired.
- Consider going to confession if it’s been awhile, so you can position yourself for the most fruitful and grace-filled parenthood.
